CLUE NUMBER FOUR (from the Colorado Rockies): For the Hidden Journey: Part of being American is knowing, in a certain locale and time, what it's like to be The Other--to feel out of place, to not belong, to feel isolated. For the Puzzle: Here is the fourth set of 5 letters of the puzzle/cryptogram: a k u i i To solve the puzzle, collect the other 13 parts and assemble them in order. This is part 4.
The Story: We're camping out in the Colorado Rockies, trying to conserve gitas for food and gas, but we don't have much equipment: a couple of plastic bottles for water, sleeping bags, air mattresses, and a camp stove. We're low on grinds, just some cans of beans and applesauce. So these people next to us have a real I-State boat, a big motor home, and I'm afraid they're going to chase us off because we're young and maybe look a little weird. I mean, some of these places are one hundred and three percent white. Maybe there's a few Indians around, but that's it. Sometimes it makes me a little self-conscious. Anyway, I'm feeling like I don't belong in this campground when this guy comes out of the RV and vectors over while we're trying to light our camp stove. We've been sitting in the car nursing a beer, worrying about the way the Lancer's been running ragged since we left New Mexico, when we decide we might as well heat up some beans and get it over with. The wind keeps blowing out the stove, and it's cold because we're up in the Rockies, and I'm starting to feel to hell with it, I'll eat the beans cold, when this guy comes over to our table.
