Tarquinia, Italy

I was getting tired of not knowing who to trust--including Freddy--and of heavyset guys trying to kill me. So I decided to go back to Bonn and just flat-out quit.

On the way north, I reckoned a short detour to the charming old hill town of Tarquinia would be, well, charming. There's a fascinating park of ancient Etruscan tombs there, and dozens of scenic medieval towers.

Polenkov had another idea for me--namely, joining the Etruscans in their tombs. But Freddy has a knack for surprising everyone, even guys who can read minds. It seems the electronic kind can be even more inscrutable than the human variety.
