B>Topics for November
1. The next 7 million jobs lost
factory work mechanized, office work automated; FIRE economy created debt-based respite
but that's over.
2. State failure to manage the economy select from free Survival+
3. the plantation /colonial model of debt-serfdom
4. fragility and resilience
of social structures, of people, goals, values. Inner strengths based on transparency
and mutual benefit.
5. The devolution of authority
youth defines identity by rebelling/resisting status quo authority. as that authority devolves
and shifts focus to collecting revenues, then what will youth find to resist?
Resistance shifts to dwindling middle class which is being squeezed for tax revenue and working poor
being stripmined by fees, penalties, etc.
Current politics of experience frames identity as a series of store-bought externals (including tattoos)
rather than a value system expressed by creating alternative voluntary transparent structures. As youth finds
cash money increasingly scarce then marketed store-bought symbolic externals will be replaced by non-industrial
scale, non-corporate-brand community engagement--true resistance rather than the faux rebellion of
"rebellious brands".
The older generations which are being squeezed will experience discontent and even rage as the entitlements
which were prmosed them in exchange for a lifestime of compliance and labor devolve. The State, as it strains
to support its Elites and apparatchiks, shifts from Savior State to stripmine-the-citizen oppressor.
the generational relationship to authority will shift as youth increasingly view the State with a clear-eyed
understanding that it has little role in their lives and is a burden rather than an asset. It has been captured
to served concentrations of power and capital, and they are effectively disenfranchised from the
internecine battles between protected fiefdoms.
Older generations will find the social pact they implicitly agreed to dissolving/devolving as the Savior State
becomes an increasingly oppressive burden on the productive. Those who can will opt out; others will simply
slip into resentful poverty.
8. The lesson of the tortilla
Much can be learned from the process of subsistance economies being transformed into market
economies for centralized profit. As concentrartions of State power and capital reach marginal returns
and necessarily over-reach and devolve, then this proeces reverses.
tortilla flour (corn masa) was once ground by hand, a laborious process that took up to 5 hours a day for
the women. Once mills arrived in the villages, the women could have the corn ground for a cash money price.
this was resisted by both women and men, as the social reelations between the sexes was disrupted by this
newfound freedom from toil and the necessity for cash.
9. solutions will be localized, contingent on feedback, flexible, decentralized,
no-industrial factory/central authority model
10. Taxpayer settlement (humor0
11. financial event horizon
12. export-led economy??

A reader/contributor to this site suggested I enable a $5/month contribution plan for readers who would like to support the site with a modest monthly donation. I hesitate to suggest this, but for anyone who insists, here is the link to PayPal's "subscribe" option which sets up a monthly contribution. This site is free--so the "subscription" is only a voluntary contribution. The "unsubscribe" link is also available for when you find the usual drivel here insufferable.
